Why You Feel Called:

I feel called to the ministry of governance because of a passion for bridging the distance between what happens legislatively and what happens in our pews. As a new deputy in 2022, the first heated debate on the floor between someone who was vehemently guarding our doctrine and discipline and someone else who held an equally passionate yet disparate view on the same caught my attention in a new way. These deputies’ dioceses could not have been more disparate. Yet it was in that moment that I understood why governance mattered. Why all our voices matter!

The language we use to make resolutions, the choices we prioritize in doing so, and the discernment of the movement of the Holy Spirit among all of us, not just some of us, allows for all things to work together for God’s greatest good. We can be responsive rather than reactive in thought, word, and deed, especially in our governance.

We are also bridging the gap between what has been and what will be as the church faces seismic challenges ahead. What does it mean to hold tradition and yet be open to what God is calling us into? How can we discern what our next most faithful steps are? The church has called me to work with youth and young adults, students and retirees. It gives me a unique perspective as we move forward with all voices shaping a church still growing in God’s image and likeness. It would be a privilege to serve again, navigating this terrain on your behalf, and to do so with a grateful heart for the opportunity.
