Highlights from GC80: Day One

On day one of the 80th General Convention, a time of worship opened the day in each house with a pre-recorded sermon from Presiding Bishop Michael Curry. Bishop Curry's sermon considered all of the atrocities happening in our world today, coming back to a touchstone phrase: "Look to the Rock." You may view Bishop Curry's sermon below:

Legislative sessions in the House of Deputies and House of Bishops took place in the morning, afternoon, and evening. One resolution completed this day was a commemoration of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and the shooting victims of June 16, 2022 in Alabama, followed by a moment of prayer. Despite WiFi difficulties, each house through resolutions with diligence and good humor. Humor was especially at play in Bishop Sutton of the Diocese of Maryland's welcome to both houses, which you may view below:

Following the afternoon session, attendees exited the Baltimore Convention Center to process to the site of a fatal shooting for a time of prayer and remembrance led by the Bishops United Against Gun Violence.
