Clergy Transition News: May-July 2024

Retirements
The Rev. Richard Elliot retired from St. Andrews on the Sound, Wilmington in early May. He is still active in his service as Ecumenical Officer for the Diocese of East Carolina, and he recently also served as a a first-alternate deputy for GC81 (and you can see him singing in the choir in photos and worship services!). We pray blessings and congratulations for this new season with his retirement!
The Rev. Everett Thomas stepped down as Priest in Charge at St. Francis by the Sea, Salter Path in May, This is to be a “second” retirement, and we congratulate him on this next stage in his life. We pray blessings for this new season with his retirement!
Transitions
St. Francis by the Sea, Salter Path welcomed The Rev. Mary Ogus as part-time interim priest in charge beginning in May of 2024. We pray blessings for Rev. Ogus’s ministry at St. Francis!
The Rev. Deacon Matthew Overturf has joined St. Anne’s, Jacksonville as Deacon in Charge, and he is to become Rector after his ordination to the priesthood. We pray blessings for Deacon Overturf’s ministry at St. Anne’s!
The Rev. Gary Jones has begun as interim Rector at St. Andrew’s by the Sound, Wilmington, as of July 2024. Welcome to the Diocese of East Carolina, Rev. Jones, and we pray blessings for his ministry at SAOTS!
The Rev. Deacon Jon Sargeant will begin as quarter-time Deacon at St. Stephen’s, Goldsboro on July 14. Jon is being ordained to a bi-vocational ministry, where he will continue to serve as a District Court Judge for the 8th Judicial District in addition to his ordained ministry. We pray blessing for Deacon Sargeant’s ministry at St. Stephen’s and his work with the courts!
