Pentecost
You send forth your Spirit, and they are created;
and so you renew the face of the earth.
When the day of Pentecost had come the disciples were all together in one place. In a world that seeks to divide us, insist that we separate ourselves, claim a political party or ideology, Coke or Pepsi, pick a side, Pentecost insists that the disciples are together. The Church is born when the disciples are together in one place. It doesn’t mean they are all of one mind, that they agree on every decision, or that they are conflict-free . When the Spirit intervenes, it’s to people who are of divided language and different nations. The Holy Spirit enters the space and there is understanding. Suddenly, partnering with the Holy Spirit and with God, they and we find ourselves, together, trying to figure it out, seeking to be in relationship, trying to make it a little more on earth, as it is in heaven. As the Spirit renews the face of this earth, we are empowered to embody the world that God dreams.
