Bishop’s Update: June 22
On a normal day at General Convention, the deputies (lay and clergy) and the bishops meet in different rooms and handle their legislative work separately …more about that as we go! But there are a number of moments when the bishops join their dioceses in the room where the deputies meet, and today included one of those moments. To kick off the start of Convention, we gathered together to hear our presiding officers address us. Julia Ayala Harris – President of the House of Deputies, spoke well and graciously. I appreciated the way in which she was mindful to thank the many people who have worked so hard to host us in Louisville. Then Presiding Bishop Michael B. Curry spoke …or rather he preached! It was good to hear his message of hope for The Episcopal Church. God isn’t done with us yet!
It seemed clear to me that there is a real affection between our two presiding officers and for that I am grateful!
