Parish Organist/Choir Director at All Saints, Southern Shores
All Saints Episcopal Church, an inclusive and affirming parish on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, seeks a gifted and collaborative Parish Organist/Choir Director to lead and shape the musical life of the congregation.
This is an opportunity for a skilled church musician to join a parish that values music as an essential part of worship, formation, and community life. We are seeking someone who combines strong organ and choral leadership with pastoral sensitivity, collegial spirit, organizational skill, and a love for Anglican liturgy. The parish’s principal instrument is an excellent II/18 Quimby pipe organ, completed in 2017.
The Organist/Choir Director will provide musical leadership for the principal worship life of the parish, including one weekly Sunday service, and other feasts and celebrations. Working closely with the Rector, this person will select hymns, service music, and choral repertoire that support congregational singing, deepen worship, and reflect the seasons and theology of the Church.
The successful candidate will lead the parish choir in weekly rehearsals and liturgies, help strengthen its musical ability and sense of shared ministry, and encourage the musical gifts of the wider congregation. Responsibilities also include preparing service music details for bulletins, coordinating substitute or additional musicians as needed, overseeing the music library, helping maintain musical instruments and choral resources, and participating as a collaborative member of the parish staff.
Candidates should have college-level training and/or significant experience in organ performance, choral direction, and liturgically grounded church music. Excellent communication, administrative, and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work with flexibility, initiative, and a commitment to excellence.
Compensation includes an annual salary of $18,000–$21,200, continuing education funding and time, use of parish instruments and spaces for practice and instruction, and additional compensation for weddings, funerals, and other services as provided by parish customaries.
