Mental Health Awareness & Trauma Informed Ministry with Children & Young People
November 22 @ 9:30 am - 2:00 pm
As our children and young people experience an ever-changing and challenging world, we are all too aware of the toll it takes on their mental health and well-being. As people who love and care for the children and young people in our midst, how can we be better equipped to serve them and meet them where they are, understanding the varying impacts of the ongoing mental health crisis? This workshop, led by Susan Peek, LCSW, will offer clergy and lay leaders an introduction to trauma informed ministry as well as resources, best practices, and ways to care for the mental well-being of the children and young people in our parishes.
Susan Peek is therapist at Carolina Psychological Associates. She has been there for over four years, previously practicing in upstate New York. Prior to becoming an LCSW, Susan served as a youth minister in Episcopal churches in California and also served on staff in the Diocese of California. Susan has led many of the mental wellness offerings through Lifelong Formation in the Diocese of East Carolina including:
- Marvelously Made: Supporting Congregations & the Neurodiverse Community
- Amazed & Astonished: Faithfully navigating healthy relationships with teens. (Parents and Adults who care about young people)
- Finding Balance: Learning new ways to effectively cope with the stresses and demands of everyday life that impact our bodies, minds and spirits.
- Relationships 101: Strategies to keep and create healthy, hopeful, balanced connections with those we care about. (Youth)
