The Transition Committee’s Kickoff Meeting

The Bishop Transition Committee had their kickoff meeting at Diocesan House on Friday March 28th. The meeting was attended by the Transition Committee members, Chaplains, Rev. Michael Singer. Our Search Consultant, Dr. Blanca Silvestrini, joined us by Zoom.

Our day was grounded in prayer and rooted in worship as led by our Chaplains, The Rev. Mary Ogus and The Rev. Dr. John Pollock. We began with Morning Prayer with insights on liminality and how to embrace it at this time. Be comfortable in the uncomfortable.

Following Morning Prayer, committee members introduced themselves with one interesting fact that others would not know.

Rev. Michael Singer, Chair of the Standing Committee, gave an overview of the search and transition process. Dr. Silvestrini, gave a presentation on Transition committee roles and success tips.

Before breaking for lunch, Rev. Pollock led the commissioning of the members of the Transition Committee and Rev. Michael Singer gave the Standing Committee’s Charge to the Transition Committee. The Transition Committee’s charge includes coordinating Meet and Greet sessions and events, shepherding our Bishop candidates, farewell events for Bishop Skirving and Sandy, and assist in planning and coordinating the Consecration of our X Bishop of the Diocese of East Carolina to name a few.

After lunch, co-chairs Stephen Thomas and Mary Duane Hale reviewed committee assignments and timelines and there was a group discussion on Diocesan points of interest with a large map of the Diocese.

The day concluded with the Litany for the Bishop Transition Committee led by our Chaplains.

It was a prayerful and productive day as the Transition Committee begins their year and half journey together. Please join them in praying without ceasing in the months ahead.
