Facilities

Dorms and Indoor Spaces

Students and chaperones stay in dormitories located on Bogue Sound. The four dormitories (dorm floorplan) are each divided into two cabins, and each cabin houses 12 people. Each cabin has a bathroom with private showers and toilets. In addition, every dormitory has one private room and bathroom for a lead teacher. The dorms accommodate groups of up to 92 people (80 students and 12 adults). Each dormitory is made more comfortable by air conditioning and heat.

The Centrum pavilion, big enough for large group activities, also houses the Sound to Sea Program Office and three indoor classrooms. An activity field lies between the Centrum and the dining rooms, which are located in the central conference center area. The Sharp Building is our indoor meeting hall. Through the pedestrian tunnel on the beach side is one additional indoor classroom.

Food

Our dining hall can seat between 108 and 135 people, depending on the placement of a movable sound-proof wall. The tables seat nine people, usually seven or eight students and one or two adults. The number of teachers, chaperones and Sound to Sea staff members actually dictates just how many tables of seven or eight students there will be. Students will sit with their table groups for all of their meals, so that they can get to know each other better and share about what the different groups have been doing. However, adults can choose to sit with different tables for each meal.

Health and Safety

Over the history of the Sound to Sea Program, our accident rate has always been very low. Our safety record is a direct result of the care we take in our classes and in setting our behavioral standards. If there is any type of emergency during the day, all of our instructors are trained in Basic First Aid and CPR. If there are any emergencies after hours, schools can contact the EMS System and the Trinity on-call staff. Be sure to pack your personal cell phone and charger in case of nighttime emergencies.

With the Rescue Squads in Salter Path and Pine Knoll Shores both less than 3 miles from Trinity Center, the average response time after the initial call has been approximately five minutes. The local squads are very familiar with the property and conduct some of their trainings here. Carteret Health Care Hospital is less than 12 miles from Trinity Center.
