DESCRIPTION:Most of us want to serve God\, live a happy life\, leave a lasting impression on someone\, and make the world a better place. It can seem like too much to accomplish for the average person\, but UTO (the United Thank Offering) supports everyone in doing just that through practicing gratitude daily. Becoming mindful of the good things in your life every day makes you happier. Being a happier and more grateful person allows you to be more generous with others\, which will leave a lasting impression on them and often make them happier too. And acting on your gratitude by giving to others through donations to your UTO Blue Box makes the world a better place because UTO combines all of those gratitude gifts and disperses them around the world in grants for projects that change peoples’ lives every day. You can change the world\, and it starts with gratitude for God’s gifts every day.  The Diocese of East Carolina’s ingathering will be November 5th. SUMMARY:Amazed & Astonished: Faithfully Navigating Relationships with Your Teen
DESCRIPTION:Navigating the years young people are teenagers can be both amazing and astonishing. These years are also challenging and maddening. Using the story of Jesus in the Temple from Luke’s Gospel (2:41-52\, NRSV)\, Susan Peek\, LCSW will led parents and caregivers of 6th – 12th graders through helpful ways to faithfully adjust course and navigate healthier relationships them.  Susan Peek is the clinician Lifelong Formation has engaged to facilitate two mental health series for young people as well as a youth leader training on inclusion. She is Clinical Social Worker at Carolina Psychological Associates. Prior to her career working with children and young people as a counselor\, Susan was a Youth and Young Adult Minister in Episcopal Churches in California. She is also a disaster response counselor and teaches in this field at UNC-Greensboro.  Supported by the Department of Lifelong Christian Formation in the Diocese of East Carolina. SUMMARY:A Celebration of Homecoming and Healing: Veteran’s Service at St. John’s\, Fayetteville
DESCRIPTION:The Episcopal churches of Fayetteville and the Upper Cape Fear Deanery together with the Episcopalians at Fort Bragg will gather for a service of support for our Veterans on Wednesday\, Nov. 8th at 5:30 PM at St. John’s Episcopal Church\, 302 Green Street\, Fayetteville\, NC. The service will include healing\, Holy Eucharist and a meditation offered by Ben Shepherd.  Lieutenant COL (Ret) Ben Shepherd was born in Louisville\, Kentucky and raised in Reidsville\, North Carolina. After attending the United States Military Academy at West Point\, Ben served 22 years as a Field Artillery Officer\, deploying four times and being stationed overseas in Italy\, Germany\, and Saudi Arabia. Ben was stationed at Fort Liberty from 2002- 2006 and 2018-2022. In his final assignment\, Ben commanded 3rd Battalion 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment in 1st Brigade\, 82nd Airborne Division. Ben\, his wife Lizzie\, and their three daughters Betsy (18)\, Mary Milam\, (16)\, and Campbell (14) have attended St. John’s since 2018. Members of the Fayetteville and Fort Liberty communities and the Diocese of East Carolina are encouraged to attend. Dinner will be provided at no charge for veterans and for those on active duty in the military. Donations will be accepted to defer the cost of the dinner.  Download the Flyer Here

Alves will focus on while on his sabbatical during the month of April 2024.
