Background
Diocesan Convention is the opportunity to come together as one body to make decisions for our common future as this branch of the Body of Christ. We, as we know, are not the vine, but are the branches. In our case we are the Episcopal branch in eastern North Carolina comprised of about seventy worshiping communities spread throughout more than thirty counties. It is in our location that the first settlers of the “new world” came to be though we cannot be sure what became of them. And it is in our location that the original Diocese of North Carolina had its beginning. Then, as now in the post-COVID world, the unknown lies before us.
As we step into the unknown, we will conclude our more than year-long Mission Priority discernment process and prepare to enter the implementation stage. All action taken at this convention will reflect, at least to some degree, how we will proceed with the newly identified Mission Priorities, and what our courses of actions will be over the next several years.
Remember that we are branches, and working to discern God’s will, at this convention we will do all that we can to move ahead with Mission Priorities that will further the Kingdom of God in East Carolina and the world.
