SUMMARY:Relationships 101: Strategies to keep and create healthy\, hopeful\, balanced connections with those we care about.
DESCRIPTION:This 3 part series young people in grades 6 – 12 is meant to provide open and safe space for conversation about the most common kind of relationships we can find ourselves in. The East Carolina Youth Council hopes to continue to foster open conversations around Mental Health and Wellness\, and how the relationships in our lives impact mental wellbeing on many levels. Through this series we hope to provide a beginning tool kit so young people understand how to identify healthy relationships with friends\, family and those with whom they may be romantically involved. We hope to provide strategies and ways to recognize when a relationship is unhealthy or out of balance and tools and coping skills for these kinds of situations. Mental health and wellness is an important part of our lives. The continued stress from the COVID-19 Pandemic on top of the regular every day stressors of school\, sports\, church and other demands can make keeping balanced healthy relationships difficult. This is a 3 part series and while it is not necessary to participate in all 3\, but of course all are welcome in all sessions. Registration for this event is required. We will meet via ZOOM for all three. Please include a valid email address that is checked regularly where the ZOOM link can be emailed the day of the session. Susan Peek\, LCSW\, is serving as Clinical support for this series. Susan has experience providing counseling in school-based and clinical settings to young people with trauma histories\, ADHD\, or who are experiencing depression\, anxiety\, grief and loss and other emotional and behavioral challenges. She uses interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy\, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy\, Dialectical Behavior Therapy\, Solution-Focused Therapy\, therapeutic art\, and therapeutic play to help individuals and families address challenges with emotional and behavioral concerns. She provides affirming therapy to the LGBTQ+ community. The Rev’d Michelle Bullock\, St. Peter’s by the Sea is serving as Chaplain for this series. Youth Leaders from around the diocese will facilitate aspects of the program in breakout rooms. Register Here
